Rainbow kimono style baby cardigan

I would never knit something so colourful for myself, but there is something about a baby that seems to demand bright colours and/or cutesy animals and shapes. This is the Garter Stitch Baby Kimono with some modifications.

First off, I wasn’t going to use lightweight wool after all the hassle with the last baby cardigan, so this is double-knit. To get the right gauge, I halved the number of stitches called for in the pattern. The only place this wasn’t the case was in the neck decrease, which I did as written. I decided early on to use stockinette stitch instead of garter stitch, to better show off the colour variations. And I didn’t do a neckband, instead finishing all the edges with a blanket stitck in a coordinating but thicker wool.

I was a bit uncertain about the super bright colours when I first bought the wool, but I have to say I love it now. Here’s hoping the baby doesn’t grow out of it too fast!
