Somewhat impractical green baby vest

This green vest is made from wool leftover from my first ever knitting project. The buttons came from my collection of random buttons (those leftover from sewing projects or the extra buttons you get with ready to wear coats and trousers). The pattern is pretty straightforward and well written and available for free.

I’ve called it impractical, but that might be a bit unfair. We’ve used it a few times to keep the baby warm in the house and she’s worn it once outside. Somehow it always seems not quite warm enough for cold days, and too warm for slightly chilly days. Perhaps it just reflects the fact that I’m a cardigan girl – in my opinion, nothing beats a good cardigan for changeable and uncertain weather.

So, I like this item, but am not sure how much use we’ll get out of it in the end. It’s currently on the big side so perhaps I’ll find more use for it as we move into winter and we all start wearing more layers.
